Bottrill Makes it a weekend double!

Matthew Bottrill (www.drag2zero.com) made it a weekend double victory by winning the Leicestershire RC hilly. Held at Syston Leicestershire (near the HQ of Giant UK), riders completed a 26.1mile course - reduced by 2miles due to traffic lights near the finish area. But all the major climbs of Billedon Coplow, Tilton-on the-hill, Somerby, Burrough-on the hill and the final climb of Twyford all remained.

Leaving the starting area at 9.50 aboard a Giant Trinity SL, and opting for an ENVE 6.7 front wheel and ENVE 8.9 rear wheel, Bottrill was soon powering down the home straight in to what could only be called torrential rain! Soon up to speed, and catching riders that had been brave enough to start, Bottrill was flying through the lanes pushing the Bike and wheels to the limit. “This is the second time I’ve opted to use the the 6.7 front and 8.9 rear Smart-ENVE wheels due to very high cross winds, they handle so well you hardly feel any inbalance when you get high gust of winds, and the Giant Trinity SL frame also handles great in these high winds, making it the perfect combination for hilly races. Cycling is getting so technical, its like Formula 1 racing, so if you want the best result you have to select the right combination of equipment!”. Bottrill stopped the clock in a rapid 1.01.34 to beat former National hill climb champion Matthew Clinton, who also flew round the course in a solid 1.03.40.

“I’m quite happy with this weekend results, I’ve put some solid training in between races and even rode out to the race and home today to give me a total of 70miles. A big part of my recovery is using the right nutrition as supplied by Zip-Vit. But also sports massage has helped me out big time this year. I work with Jason Lavine at I-massage and he know’s how to get the best out of athletes he works with”.

Next weekend Bottrill and the rest of the Drag2zero race team will be competing in Wales with the aim of taking the National competition team record for 25miles. The record is currently held by Bottrill, Scott Povey & Richard Bradley. Check in next week to find out how the race goes.
